WILLIAM MULLEN Obituary

MULLEN, William J. Jr. Of Weymouth, MA, formerly of Milton and Hanover, passed away peacefully, on March 28, aged 87. The eldest son of William J. and Hanora (Buckley) Mullen, Bill grew up in Dorchester and Hyde Park, graduating Hyde Park High School in 1956. He was predeceased by his sister, Jane (2017); cousin, Bill Wallace of Rockland (2012); and many friends and loved ones. Bill was bright, resourceful, and hardworking from the start, shining shoes in Codman Square and helping to feed his family as a young boy. After stints as a farmhand and veterinary assistant, in the Coast Guard, and as a delivery driver and musician, he worked in pharmaceutical sales for 30 years before taking an early retirement in his mid-50s. Bill found joy in country music and horses, in movies, particularly Westerns and in regaling friends and family (and unsuspecting receptionists, waitresses, etc.) with all manner of jokes and stories. A devoted friend, Bill Fall, once said of him: "I never knew anyone who was so well liked by so many people." Bill is survived by his son, Daniel; cousins, Thomas Mullen of Georgia and Mary Ellen Logan of Pembroke; longtime friends, Michael Guardabascio of Maine and Barbara Kindig of Milton and many others. A Funeral Mass will occur at a later date. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, in Hyde Park, will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Hanover (MA) Council on Aging.
