It's good to see so many people acknowledging the life of Rupert Leonard. Rupert was a schoolboy track legend in Massachusetts and New England. The color of his skin did not matter to any of us. The effort that he put into his sport caused us all to really admire him and many black track athlets sought to emulate Rupert. He
was astounding and memorable

Rupert elevated every track meet at White Stadium.... You knew he was on his way to a great finish... the crowd loved him.... He made it exciting for all us and it appears that he lived his life the same way.. always a champion. We had a few common friends back then... It has been a while Rest in Peace.

So sad to come across this obituary for Rupert. Whilst he was in Glasgow in 1995 as a Boston PD Officer on an exchange programme with Strathclyde Police (Scotland) he came to my assistance whilst I was my driving my taxi. He single-handedly disarmed my attacker who was attacking me with a twelve inch butchers knife and carried out an arrest assisted by Police Officer Peter McDonald (Strathclyde Police). I will always be eternally grateful for Rupert and Peter for being my guardian angels that night and his and Peter's words of comfort in the hours that followed with me in the Police Station have stayed with me ever since. Dear Sister Ellie, nieces, nephew...all family of our Omar. It is now a time for sorrow because your heart is heavy with loss. It is important to weep freely and honestly for love. It is all about missing your loved one. God knows. He is the Giver of tears. The day is coming when your tears will turn to joy again. How awesome is it to have had Omar for so many of his 70 years!
Comfort one another with precious memories and the personal legacy he left for each one of you.

Dear Eleanor, Leonard children and family; I will always remember our Brother-in-law Omar standing tall, with a presence of authority and a really nice smile. I fondly remember that our Dad, John C. Silva, considered Omar to be a "man's man," and on many occasions Dad would say, "I have a lot of respect for Omar." We all have a sense of pride for Omar's dedicated service as a Boston Police Officer; how proud all of you must be! We love Omar and we know you mourn his departure and miss his presence. I pray that the good Lord provide you strength in your grief to also remember Omar's life and the precious time you had together. Omar now lives in the presence of the Lord and until we meet again, he lives in your lives as well. Carry on Omar's legacy of service in the path God has chosen for you. May God continue to bless you all.

Sterling Anderson - Rupert and I ran track together in high school we were on opposing teams. He was a great competitor. I always look forward to seeing him at Juneteenth. I'm going to miss him.
