David Guptill Obituary

David W. Guptill "Guppy," 75, passed away the morning of Aug. 12, 2010.

David was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Billings to Lester R. Guptill and Catherine Boomler Guptill. He was the youngest of seven children.

David graduated from Custer High School. He enlisted in the Air Force.

He and his first wife, Gracia, had three children, Kevin, Terry and Dava.

He married Arlene in 1972 and helped raise her children, Cindy Barkley (Randy) and David Kern (Cammie).

Dave has five grandchildren, Strider, Jake, Eric, Chris and Michael; and two great-grandchildren, André and Allora.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Fred, Verle, Leck, Wally; and sister, Ada.

Dave worked at Montana State University, Safeway, Joe's Parkway and for the city of Bozeman. He ran his famous Guppy's Meat Shop for his many hunting friends and family. His joy in life was hunting and fishing. He was always after that big elk, deer or wild turkey. He was especially happy to have gone to Alaska twice on fishing trips. After his illness, he enjoyed having coffee with the guys from the American Legion Club.

Dave requested no funeral, but he wants to have a celebration of his life which will be held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Eagles Club, 316 E. Main St., Bozeman, MT 59715.

Any donations may be made to rebuilding the American Legion Club, P.O. Box 936, Bozeman, MT 59771.

Kevin, Terry and Dava,
So sorry to hear about David. Last time I saw him was at the Hotel while he was hunting. Mom and Dad woke me up to say I had a visitor and this man jumped up to hug me and called me Mike!! I was shocked. I knew he had to be from Moms side of family as they were the only ones who called me Mike! May God hold your hearts in his hand during this difficult time. Trust in him for your healing. God bless.

Dava and Family, My sincerest sympathy for your loss. Dave was a favorite of mine, and it saddens me that his bright blue eyes and sunny smile are only a memory now. With love, Robbin and Kieran

Roger Meredith

August 15, 2010

I'm Roger Jack Meredith. My Dad, Jack Meredith lived with the Guptills when he was going to school in Custer, Mt. The ranch where he lived and I grew up later on in life, was 29 miles away and in those days it was horse back or horse drawn carts and let's just say questionable roads, (OK trails). Dave's older brother Lester "Leck" was a year older than Dad, but because of a horse accident and a broken back, Leck missed a year of school and graduated with Dad. They were like brothers. Dave being the youngest of the "bunch" knew Dad well. Dave and I knew one another for a long time, but really met up in Bozeman during bowling league and the Legion. I hooked him up with a hunting trip to the ranch and he had a great time. HE GOT HIS TURKEY. Even got to visit the farm that his parents owned and he grew up on. "Guppy" will be missed by people like Tom Jones and others. A pork chop sandwich is not a pork chop sandwich without some of Guppy's horse radish. Dave you have joined my Dad in heaven, please tell him "HI" for me. Till later, your friend, Rog.
