Wallace Bent Obituary
Wallace Glen Bent of Three Forks died March 16 at Mountain View Care Center in Bozeman.
He was born February 20, 1923 in Laurel, Mont., the son of Fred A. and Della Morris Bent. Wallace was a true son of Montana pioneers. He grew up near his grandfather's homestead ranch at the foot of the Pryor Mountains. He served under General Patton as a gunner on an anti-aircraft halftrack in WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
In 1956 he married Marie Bent, widow of his good friend and half-nephew, Glenn Bent. At 33, he became an instant father to Glenn's three children. Two sons, Fred and Russell, were added to the family over the next four years.
Wallace was a rural mail carrier, farmer, motel owner, mechanic, truck driver, and professional maintenance man before his retirement. He loved to hunt, fix things and swap stories. He loved his family and prayed for them daily.
He is survived by his sister, Lorna McKinney; his wife, Marie; his sons, Fred and Russell; step-children Arthur, John, Mary and all their spouses; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Thanks, Dad! You did a great job!
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. at the Belgrade CMA Church.
