Alvin Irwin Zimmer, 93, of Bradenton, FL passed away April 27, 2023. Alvin was born in Bronx, NY January 31, 1930, where he lived a colorful life. In his youth he worked as a pinsetter, street baller, book keeper and graduated from Hunter College with a B.S. in Chemistry. He used that education to work for Sterling Drug Co., Magnavox, Honeywell, the Dept. of Defense (Polaris Missile project/Pueblo nuclear sub project) and Enthone Chemical as an engineer. Throughout his life, he liked to stay busy. He golfed regularly, danced, played cards with friends, attended local theater (especially when there was a musical), traveled extensively, camped, co-owned a plating business, volunteered at the local cat rescue shelter, taught Bible studies, taught English to non-English speakers, sold life insurance and served in many roles at his long-time Church, Palma Sola Presbyterian, in Bradenton, FL. He was well respected for his intellectual capacity, his zest for life, his wry sense of humor and his ability to tackle any problem that came his way. In his later years, he looked forward to spending time at family gatherings and loved recently becoming a great-grandfather. He is survived by his current wife, Beverly (Boston-Parrott); his five children; Suzanne (Jack) Jones, Gabrial (Michael) Lott, Elizabeth (Daniel) Granados, Mara (John) Curran and Damon Zimmer. He is also survived by his three step-children; Michael and Jeff Parrott and Susie (Parrott) Wood; as well as 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM, Sat., May 6, 2023 at Fogartyville Cemetery. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
