Calvin Post Obituary

Calvin B. "Cal" Post, 88, of Bradenton, died December 19, 2012. Cal, the youngest of 13 children, was born August 26, 1924 at East Taghkanic, Columbia County, NY. He retired as manager of Taconic State Park in 1985 after 42 years of public service. Cal was a longtime (63 years) and continuous member of American Legion Post 1160 Department of New York. He was a past Department Vice Commander of the New York State American Legion. He also was a past chairman of the New York State Park Managers Committee on which he represented the Taconic Region for several years. Cal was a Deputy with Columbia County Sheriff's Office for many years. He was active in the Republican Party. Cal was a past chairman of the Columbia County EMS Unit, and served many years with the local ambulance squad, which he helped form in 1946. Cal moved to Bradenton in 1988. During World War II he served with the 759th Tank Battalion in Europe, took part in the D-Day landing at Utah Beach, and was in 5 major bat-tles, including "The Bat-tle of the Bulge". Cal served on his Church Board as an Elder and was a past President of the Florida Classis, Reformed Church in America. He also served many years as Treasurer of the Mirror Lake Condominium Association and was a past President of that Association. Cal is survived by his wife, Karen Melinda, a daughter, Drinda Post of Copake, NY; a step-daughter, Julie (Rod) VanOrsdol of Bradenton; a step-son John "Jay" (Sara) Bumgarner of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren: Nicholas "Ted" (Cathy) Marchionne of Craryville, NY; Darryl "D" Christian Marchionne, of Greenville, SC; Mikayla VanOrsdol, Rylie VanOrsdol, Nora Bumgarner; great granddaughter, Sarah Grace Marchionne; and a brother Warren (Alice) Post, of Valdese, NC. Seven brothers and four sisters preceded him in death. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 29, at 2:00 PM at Bayshore Gardens Com-munity Church (RCA), 6228 26th St. W., Braden-ton, FL with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Herlein officiating. Kicliter Funeral Home, Palmetto FL is in charge of arrangements. Following cremation, burial will be in the Florida National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL. Memorials may be made to the Bayshore Gardens Community Church, 6228 26th Street, West; Bradenton. FL 34207.

I knew Calvin many years ago when he was the Taconic State Park manager. He was a great public servant and fine man who loved God. RIP, Cal.
