Rev. Dan Woodrow Able Sr.

Dan Able Obituary

Rev. Dan Woodrow Able, Sr., 86, Bradenton, Fla., went home to be with his heavenly Father, on July 25, 2005, in his home. He was born in Hughes, Arkansas. Dan served 20 years in the U. S. Army, nine years of that service was as a recruiter, four years of that time was in Bradenton. After his retirement, in 1967, he entered the ministry, and for 37 years, he served as pastor, missionary, and Bible teacher in churches in the United States and nine foreign countries. He was Associate Pastor and Minister to senior adults at First Baptist Church, Bradenton, for four years. He ministered to students in Bible study at Manatee Community College each Monday for five years. Dan was an avid tennis player and a member of "No Name" tennis club for over 12 years. Survivors include his wife, of 65 years, Margaret; son Dan Jr., and daughter, Judy Smith, of Bradenton, and daughter, Lana Long, of Texas; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, and two brothers. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6-8p.m., at the Able Sr. residence. Celebration service will be held at First Baptist Church, Bradenton, Friday, July 29, at 12noon. Military graveside service will be held at Skyway Memorial Gardens, in Palmetto, Fla. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, Bradenton, designated for "Foreign Missions, SBC." Bradenton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I just now found this in 2023. Pastor and Margaret Able were our pastor,wife in the mid eighties in Stuttgart ,Germany. Lovely people,as well as a good,loving pastor. I know he was able to win tennis matches against much younger Military personel. He was proud of that!!! He and Margaret are remembered with love. donna and bill

Reverend Dan was a great neighbor a lovely gentleman who touched many lives. He shared with us his love of the Lord and also his love of life. We will miss him. We know he is with the Lord in heaven.
