In the 1980s I worked with Dorothy in Lexington, KY. She was a wonderful lady who was always pleasant and ready to help with a project. She quickly became one of my favorite "work" friends. Our paths crossed several times in Lexington when we no longer worked in the same office. It was always like a reunion of old friends picking up where we left off.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this.
Dorothy and my mother (Anne Golec Melnik) are cousins, and she is my godmother. When I was a child she sent me a unique gift every year for my birthday. She lived in Lexington then and knowing my love of horses, many of the gifts were horse-themed. I actually still have a horse umbrella and a set of gold horse plaques have hung on the wall of my home for decades.
We exchanged cards and letters every year until the past few years when her Christmas cards stopped coming.
I will always remember her for her thoughtfulness, her beauty and sense of style (I once told her that she should have been a model), and her distinctive handwriting that I was always so happy to see.
I still have all of the cards, letters and photos she has sent me and I will cherish my memories of her.
My deepest condolences to Karoline and the rest of the family.

My sympathy to the family. Doe and I talked on the phone, emailed and enjoyed many stories a few years ago. I always wondered how she was and prayed for her. Dorothy Benton told me she was confused and I stopped the emails and phone calls. Thought it might confuse her more. I have good memories of our conversations. Always talking of her Karoline, named after Karoline Jablonski. May she rest in peace, now with her beloved Joe.
