Irma Johnston-Highley Obituary

Irma Johnston-Highley, 77, Palmetto, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 18, 2006. Mrs. Highley was born on June 7, 1929, in Folkston, Ga. She has been a resident of Manatee County since 1979, coming from Miami. Mrs. Highley worked as a cashier for 20 years, at the 14th Street Cattle Café, in Bradenton. She also started playing the piano at the age of 14; and served as a musician for many different churches in Manatee County including 20 years at Sara Bay Baptist Church; and part time for First Baptist Church, of Ellenton and Emmanuel Baptist Church, in Parrish where she was a member also. She was predeceased by her first husband, Johnnie W. Johnston, in 1990. Survivied by her husband, Archie, of Palmetto; three children, Bobby (Kathryn) Johnston, Ronald (Nancy) Johnston, both of Atlanta, Ga., Pamela (Rick) Waseleski, of Bradenton, Fla.; two step-sons; Tim Highley, of Dayton, Ohio, Tom (Reda) Highley, of Seven Mile, Ohio; one step-daughter, Tam Highley, of Bradenton, Fla.; close friend of the family, Jonda Fields, of Bradenton, Fla.; brother, Rudy (Pam) Murray, of Maxwell, Fla.; two sisters, Linda (Sonny) Hartley, of Lake City, Fla., JoAnne (Ithel) Lang, of St. Mary's, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Erick, Emily, Elizabeth, Rachael, Nicole, Matthew Johnston, Ashley (Ryan) Vesh; one great-grandchild, Ayden Vesh; eight step-grandchildren, Traci Sheaf, T. J. (Jane), Travis, Wesley, Robby, Becca Highley, Tiona (Carvey) Wright, Stephanie (Jason) Simpson; four step-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Trent Sheaf, Chandler Wright, Caroline Simpson; and her mother-in-law, Edith Hacker of Dayton, Ohio. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, from 5-7p.m., at Shannon Funeral Home, Town Chapel, 1015 14th Street West, Bradenton. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8305 U.S. Highway 301, Parrish, with interment to follow at Mansion Memorial Park, in Ellenton. Memorials may be made to TideWell Hospice and Pallative Care of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34231.
