Joan Deischer Obituary

Joan Rogers Deischer, of Wildwood Springs, in Bradenton, Fla., died on May 9, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Harry; her daughter, Kristy Deischer-Eddy; and her granddaughter, Deidre Deischer-Eddy. Joan was 68 years old. Joan was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., daughter of G. Edwin and Dorothy Baeder Rogers. She was a graduate of Horace Greeley High School. in Chappaqua, N.Y., and received a B.S. Degree from Cedar Crest College, and a M.Ed. Degree, from West Chester University, in secondary school counseling. Joan spent seven years teaching emotionally disturbed students, for the Devereux Foundation. She was a counselor at Norristown (Pa.) High School for two years. She also was a family therapist in the West Chester (Pa.) area. She also was Director of Vocational Services for Community Service Providers in Chester County (Pa.). Joan and her husband spent many days touring all parts of the world, mostly by cruising. She was happy at the thought of setting her feet on all the continents. Joan and Harry also spent every summer, for 30 years, in Chautauqua, N.Y. Joan was a life member of The International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons. She served the organization, as Director of the Young Adults Department and Chairperson of the Student Ministry Committee. She also was a life member of Central Council. In Pennsylvania, she served as president of the Chester County Union. Joan was a member of Grove United Methodist Church in West Chester, Pa., and served as a member of the Administrative Board. A memorial service will be held at Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Chautauqua Cemetery in Chautauqua, N.Y. Donations may be made to The International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons, Chautauqua, NY 14722, the Department of Religion at Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, NY 14722, the Grove United Methodist Church, 490 West Boot Road, West Chester, PA 19380 or the church or charity of your choice.
