Joel Berry Smith

Joel Berry Smith of Bradenton died Monday, July 1, 2008 at Manatee Memorial Hospital after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer. Joel was born December 17, 1946 in Sheffield, Ala. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Leo Cecil Smith. Survivors include his companion, Penny Vargas, a son Joel Smith, his wife Stephanie, son Richard Smith, daughter Christina Smith and three grandchldren. Survivors also include three brothers and four sisters Billy Smith, Carolyn (Sue) Shumate, Clara Coyle, Calvin Smith, Wanda Caudill, James (Jimmy) Smith, Ann (Darlene) Buschner and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served his country with honor. He also owned a mobile home setup business and a furniture refinishing business in Manatee County for many years. A memorial service will be at 10:30 am Saturday, July 12 at 27501 SR 64E, a quarter mile past Verna Bethany on left hand side. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Smith's name.
