Phyllis Gutheim Obituary

Phyllis Joan Gutheim, 85, of Bradenton, died April 27, 2017. Born in Chicago, IL she moved to Bradenton in 1976 from Rochester, NY, she was a Christian and she was a member of Monday Club Women's Auxiliary for Wives of Doctors. Phyllis came from a very traditional mid-western family. She learned to fly gliders as a teenager with her father who was an engineer. She attended the University of Rochester and obtained her Master's Degree in Nursing with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Phyllis met the love of her life, Ralph, in a hospital cafeteria. They remained married 56 years until Ralph's passing in 2014. Phyllis spent the last 3 years of Ralph's life caring for him as he was in ill health. A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she was ready to give advice, support, and love. Although she loved watching Gator football and tennis, her true love was her 4 granddaughters, Brittany, Elizabeth, Alexis and Jordan. She is survived by her 2 sons, Gary Bryant of Sarasota, FL and Gregory Gutheim, and his wife, Lorraine of Ft. Myers, FL, 3 granddaughters, and great grandson, Ezra. Phyllis will be greatly missed by the entire family. Graveside Services 2PM Monday, May 8, 2017 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241. Dearest family Gary and Greg,

I am sending love, compassion and condolences from your family who remained in the Rochester NY are where Aunt Phillis is from. She was predecessed by her only sibling and sister Sandra Bryant Anderson, and her great niece Renee Gardner.

Aunt Phillis always remembered my birthday every year, and I will forever have the fondest of memories of her. She always had a beautiful smile, so find a way to smile so she can shine through you.

Love Always,
Your Cousin Deborah Anderson Loke

Dear Gary and Greg,
I loved all the great times I had with Phyllis in Monday Club. She was an active participant and will be missed. I was lucky to visit her in January and she expressed her love for all her family and her sadness for your loss of Jordan. I will treasure my time with her that day and send my sympathies to all of you.

Dear Gary and Greg,
On behalf of Monday Club I want to express our deepest condolences on your Mother's death. Phyl was our "Sunshine Girl" for many years, sending cards to our members suffering sickness or sorrow. On a personal note, Phyl and Ralph introduced my late husband Bob and me to the Asolo Theater. Your mom said she cherished her afternoons at the Asolo, as do I. I admired her steadfast loving care for your father throughout his final illness. She was a loyal friend and will be missed.
