Donald Byerley Obituary

Donald L. "Pappy" Byerley, 82, of Gifford, formerly of 549 Bolivar Drive, Bradford, passed away Friday (Sept. 27, 2013) at Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Aug. 20, 1931, in Brookville, he was a son of the late Donald H. and Myrtle A. Smith Byerly. On June 20, 1953, in the First Church of the Nazarene, he married Dyann M. Johnson Byerley, who survives.
Mr. Byerley was a 1951 graduate of Bradford High School. He was a machinist at Dresser Manufacturing for 43 years, retiring in 1995.
He was member of the First Church of the Nazarene, a lifetime member of the NRA and McKean County Rifle Club, and a 60-year member of the American Bowling Congress. His name is permanently inscribed in the Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Mo., under "Hometown Heroics" for bowling a 300 game in Rochester, N.Y. In 1984, he also bowled a 300 game at Byllye Lanes. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and shooting at the range.
In addition to his wife, Dyann of 60 years, he is survived by three daughters, Jill (Bruce) Holes of Gifford, Krystal Madison of Little Valley, N.Y., and Lisa (Mark Hulings) Byerley of Bradford; two sons, Bradley (Debra) Byerley and Douglas (Valerie) Byerley, all of Bradford; 15 grandchildren, Barbara Stack, David (Stacy) Brown, Danielle Byerley, Stephanie (Howard) Bolding, Dyanndra (Karl Calloway) Brown, Melissa (Shane Thomas) Byerley, Kyle Madison, Brock (Jennie White) Byerley, Brooke Moore, Brian (Cerese) Holes, Richie Holes, Christopher Murray, Buddy (Kristine) Franklin, David Franklin, and Timothy Hulings; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Janice Byerly of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Robert Timothy Thiel; and one brother, Robert Byerly.
Family will be receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and again from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., East Main Street, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

So very sorry for your loss. We have a ton of fond memories of Don and feel like we've lost a member of our family, also. He was just the nicest man and will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
