Janet Detweiler Obituary

Janet L. Detweiler, 90, formerly of Fernwood Drive, passed away Sunday (Aug. 17, 2025) at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born Nov. 23, 1934, in Perkasie, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Louise Reese Haring. She was a 1954 graduate of Sell-Perk High School and later graduated from Lansdale Business School in 1954.
While in high school, Janet worked for two summers at the Atlantic City Boardwalk. After she graduated from business school she worked as a secretary at G.H. Brown Automotive in Perkasie.
On Sept. 18, 1954, in Perkasie, she married the late Ralph F. Detweiler, who preceded her in death on April 12, 2022.
Janet and her husband moved to Bradford, and she worked a short time as an aide at Custer City School and later as a secretary for Smith Brothers Tax Service.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a founding member of the Betty Monjar Garden Tour in Bradford, and a member of the Women's Literary Club. She was a former Den Mother for Cub Scouts, a volunteer and officer for the YWCA, volunteer for the Bradford Landmark Society, Bradford Hospital volunteer, and a participant in YMCA swim classes.
Janet enjoyed entertaining friends and family by serving delicious homemade recipes, especially buckeyes. She gardened, traveled with her husband, attended cooking school in France with her best friend, Winnie, and most importantly enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved her "granddogs," Ralphie and Lucy, and "grandcats," Sylvia and Winnie.
Surviving are one daughter, Lori (Stephen) Wells of Winchester, Va.; two sons, Randy (Mary Lou) Detweiler of Bradford and Craig (Margaret) Detweiler of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Stephen (Maria) Wells, Amber (Shane) Jenkins, Natalie (James) Williams, Brian (Brooke) Detweiler and Janet (Quinn) Dolan; and eight great-grandchildren, Cole and Aria Jenkins, Hannah and Zoey Wells, Owen and Madilyn Williams, Walker Detweiler and Everett Dolan.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ralph, of 67 years, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Kenderline and Marie Reider; and one brother, Russell Haring.
Private services will be held for the family later.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
