Robert Wheeler Obituary
SMETHPORT - Robert W. Wheeler, Sr., 75, of Smethport, passed away on Sunday, (Sept. 19, 2021) at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Sept. 23, 1945 in Nacogdoches, TX, a son of the late Hoyt J. and Ruthie Phillips Wheeler.
He was a 1965 high school graduate of Brownsville, TX.
On Aug. 19, 1966 he married Sarah J. Haun in California; she preceded him in death on March 25, 2012. On Dec. 8, 2014 in Smethport he married Shelly L. Barmer, who survives.
He was a lifetime member of the Rew Volunteer Fire Department and the National Rifle Association. Bob was an avid hunter and gun collector who enjoyed watching westerns; especially John Wayne movies.
While living in California; Bob worked in the steel mills. After moving to the area he was employed by Conrail, Salamanca, for several years. He then owned and operated the former WW Logging, Smethport and later was the co-owner of the former SW Haulers, Smethport. Up until his death he was a township supervisor and the code enforcement officer for Keating Township.
In addition to his wife of six years, Shelly Wheeler of Smethport, he is also survived by one son, Robert (LuAnn) Wheeler, Jr. of Tioga; one stepson, Dustin Krott of Pittsburgh; one stepdaughter, Allison Krott of Rixford; three brothers, James Wheeler, Hoyt D. Wheeler and John Wheeler; two sisters, Dorothy May and Rita Jo Wilson; one granddaughter, Katelyn (Vinny Mayer) Wheeler of Erie; one grandson, Chance Wheeler of West Chester; his best buddy, Gaven Deming and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife he was also preceded in death by one son, Elmer R. Wheeler, one daughter, Jeannie L. Wheeler and one sister, Ruth Ann.
Friends are invited to attend visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc., Bradford.
Memorial contributions in Bob's memory can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc.
