Gerald "Jerry/Jumper" Powers

1941 - 2015 MARLBORO, VT. Gerald "Jerry/Jumper" Powers, died May 15, 2015 at home. He was born April 23, 1941 in Brattleboro to William and Genevieve (Barnes) Powers. He graduated from Vergennes High School in 1959 and went into the USAF following graduation. Upon completion of his tour of duty he returned to Brattleboro and went to work at the Book Press where he remained employed until his retirement. Jerry's marriage to Leanne Shepard took place on January 4, 1997. He is survived by his spouse, Leanne. He is also survived by his first wife, Carol Bowmen Powers. Their marriage took place in 1961. Also surviving is his sister, Barbara Peters of Enosburg Falls, VT, his brother, Stanley and wife, Debra Powers of Dummerston, VT another sister, Barbara Brown and her spouse, Larry of Oxnard, CA. His children; Jared Powers and wife, Michele of Putney, Seth Powers and wife, Melissa of E. Dover and daughter, Sarah Powers of Virginia Beach, VA. Step-daughters; Anna LaPorte of Putney and Christine Brodeur of Brattleboro. He leaves his grandchildren; Nathan and Jenna Powers of Putney, Mariah, Grace and Justin Powers of E. Dover, and step-grandchildren; Kaci Viado-Meagher, Cody and Nicole Reynolds, Ryan LaShay, Alexandra Brodeur and John Laduc, and two step-great-grandsons, Alex and Riley Meagher. He also leaves nephews, Josh and Morgan Powers and Rollie Kidder and wife, Deb of FL, and several cousins and many friends. Jerry was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and owned and built many motorcycles. He was a member of the Mohawk Ramblers and he was one of the founding members of the Vermont Viet Nam Motorcycle Club and that group was instrumental in the creation of the VT Viet Nam Memorial in Sharon, VT. Jerry made the ride to the memorial almost every year to celebrate Memorial Day. He will sadly miss it this year. He has been a member of the National H.O.G., a member of the Monadnock H.O.G. Chapter 186, and the Brattleboro American Legion. His other hobbies included hunting and fishing. He was very proud of his hunting skills. He always hunted with family and friends in Marlboro, VT. He spent many hours looking through the family hunting album and was planning this year's November deer hunt with his nephew, Rollie. Jerry's ashes will be brought home, on June 6, 2015, by a motorcycle convoy lead by his son, Jared. Please meet at the Staples parking lot on Putney Road in Brattleboro at 12 Noon for Jerry's final ride. A celebration of Jerry's life will follow at his home on Adams Brook Road in Marlboro on June 6, 2015 at 1 p.m.

Sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. A group of us guys, called the '59 Club, got together once a month for lunch at the VFW. We appreciated Leanne bringing him down the week before he passed. We're going to miss Jerry's many stories....he had such a good memory.
