Mildred Williams 1923 - 2008 WEST BRATTLEBORO Mildred G. "Millie" Williams, 85, of 244 Leyden Road, Greenfield, Mass., died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center following a period of declining health. She was the mother of Nancy W. Sherk of West Brattleboro. Born on March 12, 1923, daughter of Robert and Edith Webb Garner in Manchester, England, Millie immigrated to the United States with her family in 1927 at the age of four. Her family made their home in Greenfield where she was educated in local public schools, graduating from Greenfield High School in the Class of 1942. She married her husband, Donald F. Williams, in August of 1944 at Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield. With this union, she became his steadfast and devoted life partner. This devotion extended into their working relationship, as she was the administrative assistant for her husband's architectural firm, Donald F. Williams Architect, from 1970 until present. Millie enjoyed several pastimes that included flower gardening, sewing, crossword puzzles, bowling, and caring for all types of animals. It was this love of animals and her interest in their welfare that led her to become one of the founding members of the Greenfield Animal Shelter - now known as the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish in Greenfield. Besides her loving and devoted husband of nearly 64 years, Donald F. Williams, and her daughter, she leaves her son, David A. Williams and his wife, Cindy, of Greenfield; her adoring grandchildren, Cristopher Sherk, Donald Sherk, Brian Williams and Rebecca Williams; her loving great-grandchildren,Felicia Sherk, Kirsten Sherk and Tristan Sherk; her loving sister-in-law, Bernice Garner of Turners Falls, Mass., wife of the late Stanley Garner. , and her niece, Hillary Mikucki and her husband, Michael, of Shelburne Falls, Mass. FUNERAL NOTICE: A life affirming memorial service will be observed Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 6 p.m. from the MCCARTHY FUNERAL HOMES, 36 Bank Row, Greenfield, with the Rev. Mr. Channing L. Bete, Jr. to officiate the Catholic Rite of Burial.Inurnment following cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours will be omitted. It is suggested that, in lieu of flowers, expressions of affection in the form of charitable contributions be considered to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, P.O.
