Ruth Lamprey Obituary

Ruth Lamprey

BRATTLEBORO Ruth Mae Potter Lamprey, 93, died gently and peacefully with her family at her side on April 28, 2014. Ruth's long, meaningful life was one of devotion to family, service to community, and hospitality to all. Ruth was the younger daughter of Henry C. and Mary E. Potter. She grew up with her sister Hope and brothers Curtis, Earl, and Kenny in West Warwick, Rhode Island. As a child, Ruth was called "Little Willing Feet" for her willingness to run errands for elderly neighbors. Ruth graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and was employed at Industrial Trust Company in Providence, Rhode Island, when she met the love of her life, Gerald (Jerry) Lamprey. Ruth and Jerry married in January 1944, just two months before his unit, the 14th Liaison Squadron of the U.S. Air Force was shipped overseas to support Patton's Third Army. It would be almost two years before they could be together again to resume married life and start a family. During their working years, Ruth and Jerry lived in Rhode Island, Maine, and New Jersey. After retirement they moved to Vermont. They established My Brother's Place Restaurant in Harmonyville, where local folks and tourists alike flocked to relish Ruth's homemade soups and warm hospitality. Ruth was a member of the Newfane Congregational Church, the Eastern Star Lodge in Jamaica, and the Newfane Garden Club. She was a longtime volunteer at Grace Cottage Hospital. Surviving are daughter Sharon Tierra and husband Glenn Fulop, daughter Faith Lamprey and partner Bruce Vild, granddaughter Hope Dorsey, grandson Adam Dorsey and wife Ludmilla Dorsey, great-grandson Memphis Bender and many nieces and nephews. Ruth's husband Jerry departed this life in December of 1999. The family is deeply grateful to those who provided care and comfort for Ruth in her final years including Dr. Moss Linder; Dr. Carolyn Taylor Olsen; caregivers Dianne Coloumbe, Rhonda Bradbury, Lauria Lake, and Nancy Joslin; the dedicated staff at Pine Heights of Brattleboro; Brattleboro Area Hospice; and the Hallowell Hospice Singers. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 25th at Newfane Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation in her name to Grace Cottage Hospital, c/o Dr. Backus, P.O. Box 219, Townshend, VT 05353 or Brattleboro Area Hospice, P.O. Box 1053, Brattleboro, VT 05301. To sign an online register with messages of condolence please visit www.atamaniuk.com Arrangements are under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home.
