Thomas Frizzell Obituary

Thomas Paul "Tom" Frizzell

1944 - 2014 BRATTLEBORO Thomas Paul, "Tom" Frizzell, 70 of Clark Avenue, a lifelong resident of town died Thursday morning, Dec. 4, in the comfort of his home with his family at his side. Tom was born in Brattleboro on June 29, 1944, the son of Paul and Stephanie (Juscen) Frizzell. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro graduating from Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1962. He later attended Northampton (MA) Commercial College from 1962-1964 and Plymouth State College from 1964 to 1967 where he earned his B.S. degree in Education. Tom later received his CPA certification. A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Thailand returning home to Brattleboro following his honorable discharge from active service in March of 1975. Prior to his enlistment into the Army he taught business courses at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington for two years. Tom had been employed as an IRS agent for the United States Treasury from where he retired following 41 credited years of faithful service with the agency. While with the IRS he worked out of the Montpelier, Rutland and Brattleboro offices. A devout Catholic, he was a communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church. He also held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5. A devoted family man, Tom enjoyed following his children's academic and sports endeavors as well as time shared with his family. For many years he served as a scout leader for Boy Scouts of America, Troop 405, Pack #433 in Brattleboro. A quiet, unassuming man, he was known for his spirit of friendship. He also loved his beloved Golden Retrievers. In April of 1986 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church he was married to Carole Dascomb who survives. Besides his faithful and devoted wife of 28 years he leaves one son, Jeffrey Frizzell, and a daughter, Tatiana Frizzell, both of Brattleboro; a step-son, Michael Hurd, of Brattleboro; one brother, Stuart Frizzell of Bedford, N.H.; two sisters, Inder "Pauline" Khalsa and Martha Doyle both of Brattleboro. Additionally he is survived by many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Fr. James Dodson, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and full military honors will follow in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to, Rescue Inc., P.O. I just heard of Tom´s passing from a mutual friend from Plymouth State University.
I know it´s been 8 years however, I wanted to send my condolences.
I met Tom at Plymouth State and considered him a friend. He was by far one of the kindest people I have ever met.

Just today heard of Tom's passing from his cousin Mike. We worked together at the IRS for over 30 years. I believe the happiest day of his life was when he married you Carole. Followed closely by the additions to his family of his two children. On the few times we met following our retirements he always proudly told me of his children's accomplishments. As repeated so often here, Tom was one of the Good Guys.

I was fortunate to not only know Tom as a classmate but also as a husband, father and member of the Brattleboro community, He devoted himself completely to everything he took on. He would make any sacrifice to be with Carole at the children's events. He was rightfully very proud of their many accomplishments. Throughout his life he modeled the gentle, considerate nature we saw in high school.

There are few who can claim to be admired and respected by absolutely everyone. Tom was that unique person. Carole has a strength and sense of place that will help her in the time ahead but it will be very different without Tom Frizzell.

My prayers are with Carole, Jeffrey and Tatiana,

Sending love and sharing deeply in y/our loss. "Uncle" Tom was a gentle and generous man with an enduring loyalty to family. I have lasting memories of spending time with him during my summer visits to Brattleboro as a child and he never once missed a birthday, graduation, wedding or special occasion. To me, he was the Gunner and there was no one like him. He gave me friendship, a Godfather, a Joy. This man would travel from Brattleboro to Massachusetts to watch me play ball. Now he travels to his place in Heaven.
