Chang-Song Choi Obituary

FARMINGTON

Dr. Chang-Song Choi, age 91, of Farmington, CT passed away, at his home, on Tuesday April 22, 2025. He was the loving husband of Dr. Juliana Kang Choi. Dr. Choi was born on September 30, 1933, in what is now part of North Korea and, as a young man, was able to escape to South Korea, where he graduated from the Seoul National University Medical School.

After completing his mandatory military service in the South Korean army, he then worked as a surgeon on a U.S. military base in Korea for 8 years.

He then immigrated to the United States, where he graduated from the Yale School of Medicine orthopedics surgery residency. It was at Yale that he met his wife while they were both working in an operating room.

Post-residency, he served on the faculty at UCONN School of Medicine before moving into private practice in Bristol, CT.

He was a well-respected physician and surgeon- admired and respected by both his patients and colleagues. Amongst friends and family, he was well-loved - appreciated for his humor, drive and generosity. Even though he was often reluctant to go to a party, once there- he was the life of it. Due to his love for this country, he decided to become a United States citizen.

Furthermore, to show his immense gratitude for the opportunities given by the U.S, he felt it was important to pay his taxes on time...which he did!

Besides his wife, he leaves behind his eldest daughter Dr. Janet Mee-Kyung Choi, her husband, Dr. David Berlin, his middle daughter Jennifer Mee-Ae Choi, his youngest son, Dr. Paul Han-Bae Choi and his wife Jody Alma Choi. He also leaves behind four wonderful grandchildren: Jackson and Charles Berlin as well as Luca and Anya Choi.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 75 Main St, Farmington, CT 06032.

The Ahern Funeral Home, Inc. is serving the family.

So sad to hear of DR Choi's passing. I 1973 I had a construction accident where I almost lost my foot and leg due to a staff infection. Dr Choi saved my foot and leg from being amputated. Dr Choi may be gone but I will never forget this great man and doctor as long as I live. RIP Dr Choi

Our family loved Dr Chang-song Choi.
My husband was a patient in 1976 after he broke is ankle playing in a softball game in Bristol (the Bristol Hospital team!)
He was amazing. I´ll never forget him. My husband decided to try and take his cast off himself. Dr Choi was not happy with the mess he made and had to saw the remains off.
After that he told him his name should be Chain- Saw Choi.
They had quite a laugh after that

I am so sorry about his passing. He was an outstanding doctor and friend to my husband.
