Dorothy Knibbs Obituary

BRISTOL

Dorothy B. (Brothwell) Dot Knibbs, 99, of Bristol, widow of John Jack Milton Knibbs, died on Monday (May 5, 2025) at Bristol Hospital. Dorothy was born on February 16, 1926, in Bristol and was a daughter of the late Ralph G. and Violetta (Hotchkiss) Brothwell. A lifelong Bristol resident, she was raised in the Endee Manor and graduated from Bristol High School. She and Jack moved to the Chippens Hill after they married. Dot worked as a waitress for Chippanee Country Club and also as a cafeteria worker at Bristol Eastern High School for many years before her retirement. An avid sports fan, enjoyed watching UConn Women's Basketball and tennis. She also enjoyed word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. She was fiercely independent and loved every moment she got to spend with her family. Dot is survived by two daughters: Nancy Avolt and Betty Houle, both of Bristol; a daughter-in-law: Bonnie Clark and husband, Tom of Farmington; ten grandchildren: Lori Marquis, Jeffrey Avolt (Tricia), Kathy Schilling (Ken), Rebecca Roberts (Pete), David Rindfleisch (Johanne), Dawn Houle, Timm Knibbs (Mimi), John Knibbs (Suzanne), Christopher Knibbs (Missy), and Tabitha Knibbs; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sons: John E. Knibbs and David R. Knibbs; sons-in-law: Bob Avolt and Roger Houle; and three siblings: George Brothwell, Barbara Woolley, and Earle Brothwell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284, the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or to any charity of the donor's choice.
