Kevin Philip Kegel, 68, Ventura, California died Wednesday, July 23, 2025. He was a surprise addition to the Kegel family, but Kevin, as his name implies, was a most beloved birth. He was born on May 24, 1957 to Betty and Ray Kegel. His crop of bright red hair attracted much attention and his three older sisters doted on him. We can still picture him at age 4 standing at the kitchen table in an oversized apron, hands covered in finger paint, and grinning impishly from

ear to ear-early evidence of his artistic talents.

Kevin grew up in Plainville, Connecticut and graduated from Plainville High School in 1975 where he played football and basketball. Like his dad, he loved working with his hands and later in life found joy in singing karaoke. He earned an Industrial Arts degree from Central Connecticut State University. After a short time teaching in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he moved to Boston. Attending North Bennet Street School, the oldest trade school in America, he honed his skills in fine carpentry. Kevin even tried violin making. A master craftsman, he left his mark from Massachusetts to California. He generously shared his goodness and talents with others and his family has a legacy of his workmanship with cabinets, deck and ramp, room renovations, and additions.

Most likely, Kevin would say his greatest masterpiece is his son, Jackson, with whom he enjoyed a very special relationship. Besides his son, Jackson Kegel and his wife, Tamiris Wenni, he leaves Susan Freeman (Jackson's mother and Kevin's former wife), his three sisters, Jane Moreno and her husband Tom, Kathleen Kegel, and Patricia Grant and her husband Bill, numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Neptune Society in Thousand Oaks, California (neptunesociety.com) is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 31, 2025 in Ojai, California at noon. Mom and Dad would probably sing Til We Meet Again but we will always say you are our most beloved baby brother, as handsome inside and out as the day you were born.
