William O'Neil Obituary

William L. "Bill" O'Neil, of Bristol, beloved husband of Jeannine (Gervais) O'Neil, died unexpectedly on Friday, (Dec. 16, 2022) at John Dempsey Hospital. Bill was born on Dec. 7, 1936 in Bristol, and was the only child of the late William J. and Helen (Zipp) O'Neil.
He was a lifelong Bristol resident and graduated from Bristol High School. He attended the Morse School of Business, and served in the Connecticut Army National Guard. He enjoyed a 40-year career at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft before retiring.
Bill was an avid skier until the age of 84, his favorite place being Mount Snow. He also enjoyed playing racquetball, playing his last match on Dec. 15th the day before his passing.
His love of good food resulted in him becoming a grill-master. His friends and family requested his famous chicken wings and his grilled chickens. He made his own rubs for the meats that needed them. He loved cooking for others and took great pride in his final product. His love of family was his greatest treasure.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, Bill is survived by two daughters: Sharon McLaughlin and husband, Charles of Farmington, and Jill O'Neil of Burlington; four grandchildren: Meredith and Owen McLaughlin, Forrest Russell and fiancé Josh Dumas, and Jack Russell; and his beloved dog, Delilah.
The family will be holding a celebration of Bill's life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, they encourage you to donate to Brian's Angels, P.O. Box 2111, Bristol, CT 06011-2111, or at BriansAngels.org. Funk Funeral Home, Bristol, CT is honored to serve the O'Neil family. Please visit Bill's memorial website at www.FunkFuneralHome.com.

Jeannine, Sharon, Jill, and family,
We were so very sorry to hear about Bill passing. I have very fond memories of hopping into the organge van to get ice cream or sledding down the hill between our houses. Bruce and I shared memories of when Bill would come out of the house to clap at us when Bruce mowed the lawn. We are thinking of you all and we will think of Bill the next time we hit the slopes at Mount Snow. Prayers to you all in your time of grief.

Jeannine, Sharon and Jill,

So sorry to hear about cousin Bill passing. He was always a good friend although we didn´t see each other as much as we used to. I always enjoyed your trips to Vermont. We had the little apartment. And seeing Bill out skiing and at local restaurants. He will be missed!

Jeannine, I am so sorry about Bill´s passing. I cannot believe that the two of us were just talking about him just last week. I admired him so much for his love of skiing and racquetball and of course of you. I loved how you talked about how you would lower the house thermostat and how he would shortly there after raise it! I also so remember talking to him about his grilling expertise at one of our work parties, some thing that I have never been able to master. My loving thoughts and prayers are with you. XOXO Jonathan
