Cameron Murchison Obituary

Cameron Murchison, 93, of Holden Beach, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Autumn Care in Shallotte. Cam was born June 21, 1920, to Constance and Claudius Murchison.
He spent his childhood years in Chapel Hill before moving to Washington, DC, in the early 1930s.
Cam graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1942 before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He earned the rank of staff sergeant. After the war, Cam earned his master's degree in English at UNC. He later worked for what became the NSA at Fort Meade, Md., for 35 years.
Cam married Mary Batiste on June 9, 1956, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Washington. He and Mary raised two sons in Silver Spring, Md., where Cam was a much beloved figure in the community. Cam sang in his church choir for more than 50 years, loved the sport of tennis, and was a lifelong Tar Heels fan, among many interests.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Nancy, and younger brother, David C. Murchison.
A memorial service for Cam will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Shallotte.

My sincerest condolences to the family. I'll always remember his never-ending smile and laugh. Indeed, he was a wonderful man who has left many happy memories for all who knew him. My apologies for being unable to attend his funeral but my prayers are with him.
