Lawrence Temple Obituary

Lawrence Alton "Al" Temple, 61, of Sunset Beach, died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, after a brief illness.
Al is survived by his wife of 39 years, Becky Brown Temple.
Also surviving are four sons, Andy, Len, Alan and Matt; and a sister Teresa.
Cherishing the memory of their "Pops" are grandchildren, Drew, Clint, Madison, Ross, Jack and Mattie.
Al was proud to have served his country and had a distinguished military career. He served as a Green Beret, 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, including one tour of combat duty. He was honored as Soldier of the Year at Fort Bragg in 1972.
Al also had an outstanding career in marketing and sales, which spanned more than 25 years. He served as national sales director for SCA Corp out of San Ramon, Calif., and as national accounts manager for NAPA Autocare in Marietta, Ga.
Al and Becky retired to Sunset Beach in 2009.
Al's passion for the Tarheels will live on in his boys (especially against Duke). Golf with his sons, time with his grandchildren, travel with Becky, and family and friend visits to the beach were all important to Al.
A memorial gathering in honor of Al's life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Seaside United Methodist Church, N.C. 904, Sunset Beach.
A luncheon and visitation with his family and friends will follow the gathering.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
Private online condolences may be sent to the family at www.brunswickfuneralservice.com.

Think about Al often, in fact recently. When I interviewed for the job, he asked me which college basketball team I thought he would root for. I think it helped me get the job. I wish he were still here.

As a former salesman for SCA during the late 80's and early 90's Al was the National Sales Manager. He was a really great guy, a great leader, and a blast to be around. My heartfelt wishes and love to Becky and their families. God bless, Scott Cameron, Austin, TX

I haven't seen Al in 40 years since our days at North Mecklenburg High School. We reconnected through classmates.com and then Facebook. He was so happy to find his old friends that he went to school with. Al had a wonderful personality. He will be greatly missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out for all of Al's family, especially Becky. I was looking forward to reconnect with my cousins next summer with a visit; but I am happy that Al and I had connected again a little bit thru facebook. God Bless and Keep you all.

An absolutely wonderful brother-in-law. Al, Jim and I shared many fond memories at the "Outlaw Table" at family gatherings. He had the most contagious laugh! His love for Becky, his children and grandchildren was his real gift to us all.
