Barbara Doyle Obituary

Barbara Sue "Susie" Doyle, born in 1951, passed away peacefully in Savannah, Ga., on August 15, 2025, at the age of 73.
A true Georgia peach from birth, Susie Doyle embraced life with steadfast determination, leaving a legacy of love, hard work and unwavering devotion.
Raised in the heart of Georgia, Susie was known for her keen wit and thoughtful character. From youth to early adulthood, she confidently displayed her competitive nature, teamwork and charm as she went from basketball player to graceful beauty queen.
She followed family to Savannah in the early 70s, where she met the first great love of her life, Frederic "Rick" Doyle III. They embarked on a supportive partnership that would last nearly 50 years.
A few years after marriage, their cherished daughter, Katherine Horton "Kat" Doyle, was born and quickly became the second extraordinary love of Susie's life.
Susie and Rick raised their daughter into a compassionate and caring woman through endless love and unwavering support. Losing Kat in 2018 was the most difficult burden they had to endure, but it was far from the last one.
During the past several years, Susie's battle with chronic kidney disease was defined by numerous scary emergency room visits and surgeries. But Susie had a deep strength and strong love for life and Rick that amazingly pulled her through each time.
After several recent weeks in the hospital and two more surgeries, Susie's body was unable to go on, but she will always be remembered as the strongest and most enduring person we have known.
Professionally, Susie was also a force to be reckoned with. Her dedication, sharp intellect and flexibility made her an indispensable "right arm" of managers she supported. Her commitment to excellence was evident in every endeavor, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Dora Jean Gilman and Sherrod Jones; her adored parents-in-law, Ursula Doyle and Frederic G. Doyle Jr.; a sister, Lynda DeBarry; and her loving daughter, Katherine Horton Doyle.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Frederic G. "Rick" Doyle III; along with four sisters, Shirley Dyson, Judy Carr, Sherry Bryan and Joni Moran and husband, Dermot; two brothers, Mike Gilman and Jim Gilman and wife, Paula Gilman; two sisters-in-law, Janet Dunnington and husband, Bruce; and Margo Harrison and husband, Bill; brothers-in-law, Bernard Doyle, Robert Doyle, wife, Susan; Chris Doyle and Kevin Doyle; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2025, at St. Anne Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the narthex.
Susie's strength, wit and the indelible mark she left on the lives of those around her will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susie's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.

Rick, I had the good fortune to work with both you and Susie. Both of you are just good people. Susie and yourself endured and perservered through tragedies and illnesses. May God bless you and may Susie rest in peace. Prayers for comfort and understanding.
