Ronnie & I met in October, 1963 when we assigned to same squadron for basic training in the United States Air Force. We were bunk mates, both from the South so we became friends. After basic training we were assigned to Chanute AFB, Illinois to attend jet engine school. After competing the school we were assigned to Charleston AFB, SC. At Charleston we shared the same room. Ronnie invited me to go home with him & met his parents. Since I was from the flat lands of south Alabama I was excited about seeing the Smokey mountains. It was a memorable trip because the generator went out on the car & we crossed the mountains by flashlight. Ronnie's parents were just the greatest. They treated me like family. We made the trip to Knoxville many times over the next 17 months. In the summer of 1965 I was assigned to Okinawa & Ronnie went to Viet Nam. We didn't have much contact until we were discharged, married, working, & starting our family life. Over the years we have visited in each other homes, talked on the phone, sent Christmas cards, in general just kept up with each other. Ronnie was a dear friend & I will miss him very much. Wanda, Jeff, & Tammy there is a void in your heart that will never be filled. Just remember the times that you had with Ronnie. Keep his memory alive by telling the grand children & great-grand children stories about Ronnie. I will keep the family in my prayers.I am so sorry of our loss. Larry Newsome (Fayetteville, GA)
