William B. Mock

ELLABELL, Ga. - William B. Mock passed October 3, 2025, in the comfort of his home. "Billy" was born January 10, 1924, and lived in Savannah as a child, but spent most of his 101 years on the family place in Black Creek.
Mr. Mock left school to work at Union Bag, then returned to graduate Bryan County High School in 1943
Mr. Mock served the United States Army in World War II during 1944-1945 as a mechanic supporting operations in Korea and off the coast of Japan.
After leaving the military, he worked as a filling station operator before finding his life's calling as a vocational shop teacher and school counselor.
He held three master's degrees, one in education, one in business administration and one in counseling.
He served many years on the Bryan County Board of Education and the Blitchton Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Mock was a simple man who required little and contributed much to his community. His best days were on his Ford tractors growing vegetables and sugar cane. He sought no accolades, but was recognized recently on the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific as a true American hero.
Until very recently, he enjoyed incredibly good health and memory for his age and enjoyed telling his remarkable stories to his and Rose's family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Jones Mock; siblings, Elizabeth Ward, Ruth Boggs, John Mock and Edith Brooks; nephew, Robert Boggs; and nieces, Phyllis Braly and Kathy Harvey.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rose Mock; nephews, John Brooks (Virginia), Barry Boggs; nieces, Linda Dekle and Karen Sharpe (Robert); and best friend, Buddy.
A private graveside service was held in Lower Black Creek Cemetery, with lifelong friend, the Rev. C.C. Singleton, officiating.
