J. William "Jack" Speiser, age 78, of Sherwood passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Kingsbury Trustwell Living with his family at his side.
Jack was born on March 23, 1946, in Defiance, Ohio, to Paul and Mildred (Fahy) Speiser. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 and was stationed in Korea. On April 29, 1972, he married Michele (Mick) Jacob at St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
Jack was a member of the Sherwood VFW Post no. 5665, Defiance County Farm Bureau and the Ohio Cattlemen Association. He was a proud supporter of 4-H. He enjoyed camping at the Defiance County Fair so much that it became the family's only annual vacation.
In his retirement years, Jack enjoyed endless hours of reading cattle magazines and spending time in the cabin in the woods with his grandkids. In his earlier years, he enjoyed making his three sons walk their 4-H animal projects for hours upon hours, visiting with friends and family, and going on his infamous multi-hour Sunday drives. Everyone always knew what Jack thought of something because he was very direct with his explanations.
Jack worked at Dinner Bell Foods for 21 years and then several grain elevators during his life and eventually retired from Edon Farmer's Co-op in 2011. Wherever Jack worked, he made an impact forming strong, lifelong friendships.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mick; his three sons, Sam (Jami), Ed (Jill) and Luke (Lindsay). He also leaves behind his four adorable grandchildren, Paul, Owen, Lauren and Dean Speiser. Jack also leaves behind a brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Jeannine Luderman and Judy Bayliss. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, John, James and Jerry.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, with Father John Stites and Father Melwin D'Souza officiating. Jack will be buried at St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to 4-H Endowment Fund, Central Shares, or St. Isidore Catholic Church. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
