Janet Vollmer Obituary

Janet M. Vollmer, age 84, of Edgerton passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, at Vancrest of Hicksville, surrounded by her loving family. Janet was born on Oct. 21, 1940, in Farmer Township, Defiance County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Russell and Kathryn (Lee) Heisler. She was a 1958 graduate of Farmer High School, where she served as class president. Following high school, she attended Defiance College. On June 12, 1960, Janet married her high school sweetheart, Carl F. Vollmer, at Zion Lutheran Church in Edgerton. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Janet cherished her family and dedicated her life to their care and well-being. Janet was a proud famers wife whose strength and support were the backbone of their family's farming life. Alongside her husband, she helped shape a life rooted in hard work, faith and a deep connection to the land and community.

Alongside Carl, she was co-owner of Vollmer Implement, where her commitment and work ethic were felt by customers and neighbors alike. Janet served her community behind the wheel, driving school bus for Central Local Schools for six years and served as the Clerk for Farmer Township for four years. She was deeply involved in her faith community at Zion Lutheran Church, where she served as church secretary for 10 years. Janet was also an active member of the Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), Country Cousins, 4-H Advisor and as a founding member of the Farmer Township EMS. Janet found great joy in life's simple pleasures-farming, camping, traveling and wintering in Ocala, Florida. Above all, Janet loved and supported her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Vollmer of Edgerton; two children, Clair Vollmer of Edgerton and Laurie (Ryan) Grube of Tipp City, Ohio; son-in-law, Shane Sumner of West Unity; nine grandchildren, Alyssa (TJ) Smith, Abbey (Matt) Peters, Casey (Nathan) Massie, Tanner (Jazmin) Vollmer, Paige Vollmer, Brooke (Dustin) Fields, Katie (Mike) Gooslin, Emma Lehman and Jacob Grube; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Brenda Goller. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Tammy Sumner; sister, Karen Russell; and brother, Rex Heisler.

Visitation for Janet will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, from 2-7 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 N. Main St., Hicksville. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 1018 Cicero Road, Edgerton with the Rev. Isaac Spangler officiating. Interment will follow at Farmer Cemetery.
