Shirley A. Sproles, 83, of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Shirley was born Dec. 25, 1940, in Pocahontas, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Taze W. and Mary L. (Baker) Rachel. Shirley worked various jobs including housekeeping at Harborside Healthcare, private babysitting, Yates Restaurant and Vistron Industries. She attended True Word Tabernacle, Bluffton, Ohio, and Truth Tabernacle, Defiance, Ohio. In her free time, she enjoyed arts, crafts, quilting and completing puzzle books. Shirley loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her four children, Donald L. (Jeanette Reas) Sproles of Edgerton, Ohio, Babette (Jeff Suffel) Swank of Edgerton, Ohio, Thomas (Sharon) Sproles of Ney, Ohio, and Cynthia Sproles of Sherwood, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two siblings, Ruth (Carl) Lyons of Mansfield, Ohio, and Roy (Ruth) Rachel of Smithville, Tennessee. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; son, Adam C. "Randall" Sproles; infant daughter, Rebecca Jean Sproles; grandson, Thomas W. Sproles Jr.; great-grandson, Caleb Collins; former spouse, Don Sproles; daughter-in-law, Crystal Sproles; sister, Freeda A. Russell; and brother, Alfred Rachel.
Visitation for Shirley will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 N. Lynn St., Bryan, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at the funeral home with Pastor Ray Erickson officiating. Interment will follow at Ney Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m.
Memorial Contributions can be directed to the family to defray funeral costs.
