Donnie Schifer Obituary

Donnie Schifer

Nevada - Donnie I. Schifer, 57 ,owner and operator of the Bucyrus Diner, passed away on Wednesday August 1, 2018 due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Donnie was born July 7, 1961 in Bucyrus to the late Willard G. Schifer and Mudge (Sipes) Doran who survives in TN.

Donnie is survived by children Summer Schifer of Nevada, Deana Schifer of Nevada, Seth (Heidi) Messer of Nevada, and Chase (Samantha Lambert) Messer of Nevada; grandchildren Meredith, Easton, and Hattie Messer; special friend Terry Myers, her daughter Aubrey Daughetee, and grandson Mason; step mother Mary Lou (Gingery) Schifer of Bucyrus; step father Pete Doran of TN; brothers Douglas of Columbus, Darl (Monica) of Mansfield, Danniel (Tammy) of Bucyrus, Darin (Beth) of Bucyrus; sister Dawn (Steve) Wilson of FL; half sister Shana Quiby of TN and half brother Seth Tallman of TN; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, dedicated employees, and many friends.

Donnie lived his entire life in the area and graduated from Wynford H.S. in 1979. He was a graduate of NBC Tech in Lima in 1982 and studied Diesel Mechanics. Donnie worked as a mechanic most of his life. He worked as a farm hand for the Kent family for many years. Most recently Donnie owned and operated the Bucyrus Diner. He loved all of his employees and held all of them dear to his heart.

Donnie was a member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge #343. He was a 16th Masonic District Deputy Grand Master, a 16th Masonic District Education Officer, also a past master of Nevada Lodge. He enjoyed riding his '39 Flathead and sitting on the porch of his log home that he built himself. He especially loved seeing hummingbirds fly up to the porch for a drink and seeing the bright red of woodpeckers pecking away. With good weather brought Donnie taking his mom for rides in her Model T, turning heads all throughout town. Donnie loved his dog, Moe. One of Donnie's greatest passions in life was being a father and a grandfather. Donnie was an amazing father to his four kids. He was ecstatic about being a new grandpa and spoiling his grandchildren as much as possible. Donnie was always someone that anybody could go to for absolutely anything. Whether you were broke down in the field or out of silverware during Sunday lunch rush he was there ready to help. Donnie was also a great person to go to for advice and had the best attitude towards life. Donnie's church was every Sunday morning in his hot tub listening to Breakfast With The Beatles. He was a man that loved his double bourbons, or bouble dourbans as he called them. He was a lover of classic rock and roll and classic country music. Donnie was always ready to crack a joke or tell a jaw dropping story from his interesting, and experienced past. These jokes and stories will be told and laughed at for many years yet to come. He was a man of very wise words. He will be missed by many.

I remember in July pulling up a chair beside Donnie at an outside band at Bostic Time. just to ask advice about Harleys and talk about my daughter and his kids. What a great guy and friend to be around. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, Terri, and friends. -- Jimmy O'Heron

O, Donnie, I remember the sweet little 3 yo boy with his big, soft, brown eyes who captured my heart so long ago. I was so blessed to see you grow up to be a man whom people loved and respected for his kind heart and generous spirit. It's a testament to the man you were that there has been such an outpouring of love and support to your loved ones and our family. You will live on in all of our hearts and memories. Gone much too soon.

I will truly miss my cousin Donnie. One of my greatest joys was seeing him when I went back to Ohio. He had personality that most people wish they had. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Our prayers are with his family and friends as well. It is a sad time for us.. Ride on Donnie. Steve & Cherry Boles.
