I was Dr. Calkins admin assistant at a office in Buffalo. I called in sick one day. Dr. Calkins came to my home, black bag in hand, looked me over, diagnosed and went to the pharmacy and got my meds. He was a great, funny and caring man.

In the fall of 2002, Dr. Calkins diagnosed me with a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis. I was only 40 and was afraid of what the future held. He put me on the right medication path. Such a wonderful, compassionate physician. I wish there were more like him. I am now 58 and am still working full time. I am so glad that our paths crossed. I am so blessed to be one of his former patients. I was so sad when he retired. I am so sorry for your loss.

Evan was an extraordinary man, brilliant, charismatic and so full of life. He inspired my husband Rocco to follow the path of academic medicine and convinced him to return to Buffalo after his fellowship where Evan became one of his greatest mentors. My deepest sympathy to Virginia, Joan and the rest of your remarkable family on your loss.

Dr. Calkins was a legend within the senior services community. His foresight, dedication, and hard work to establish the Network in Aging of WNY is something thousands of professionals will continue to benefit from for years to come. He was a great inspiration to many of us in the field. Amy and I express our deepest sympathies to the entire Calkins family.

Dr. Calkins was an inspiring physician and medical leader. He was a cherished mentor to my late father and I am sure to many other physicians and health professionals in Buffalo and throughout the country. His many personal and professional contributions to the field of medicine will live on and echo through time. My deepest condolences go to his family.

Dr. Calkins was an amazing "gentle"man. He was a visionary; a leader and an inspiration. He paved the road for many and motivated people, like me, to come together and collaborate. He knew that by linking services together we could achieve our goals in assisting older adults age successfully in community. It was a tremendous honor for me to receive the Dr. Evan Calkins Award in November 2019 and to spend a few moments with Dr. Calkins and chat about how far the Aging Network has come and the journey that many more will need to travel. Thank you Dr. Calkins for Making a Difference! Rest in Peace.

What a wonderful life Evan led. He lived to the fullest, taking advantage of all his gifted attributes, leaving behind an amazing family, professional legacy, and loving friends. The Eaton family will never forget the caring and kindness he showed our father when he fell ill so many years ago. We offer our condolences to the entire Calkins family as they mourn the loss of their patriarch.

I remember Dr. Calkins when he used to come to see my then boss, Dr. Glen Gresham, who was the Chair of Rehabilitation Medicine. Dr. Calkins was always so nice and would always chat with me before going in to meet with Dr. Gresham. Always introduced himself as "hi, I'm Evan Calkins" no matter how many times he met me which I always got a kick out of. He never just expected anyone to just know who he was. I always felt he was a truly nice man. My condolences to his family.

He was always so welcoming and interested in me whenever I would come over, as a child or later as an adult. He genuinely engaged with me in conversation. I only knew him as the father of my good friend Sally, but you could feel love and affection from his gaze. He will be greatly missed.

Unforgettable and accomplished man. He led such a full life and left such an accomplished family of whom he was justifiably proud. How wonderful to live to be 99 and continue to be productive, thoughtful, and engaging until the end.

It was a joy to speak with Dr. Calkins last summer at the HHS all-classes reunion. He was sharp and charming and so proud of his family. We should all live our lives so fully! My condolences to the clan.
