Francis "Frank" Anthony McGarry, 87, of Albany and previously Buffalo, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, in Albany surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Buffalo on June 12, 1938, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Mary V. (McMahon) McGarry. Frank committed his life to fire safety and community service, first as a firefighter and later as the first appointed State Fire Administrator for the NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, August 28th, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at The Dufresne and Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 29th, 2025, 9:00 AM at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham with Reverend Brian Kelly, celebrant. I worked closely with Frank during our service at the NYS Department of State, under Mario Cuomo, and previously at the Office for Local Government. Frank was a leader and we accomplished much together together during that time. He became a great friend and he is. greatly missed. So sorry for his loss to all his family and friends. Tony Brankman
