Frank R. Nicosia, of Williamsville, a trial lawyer, died Sunday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, after a brief illness. He was 85.
Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, attended Syracuse University and received his bachelor's degree from Canisius College. He earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Buffalo Law School and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Nicosia, who kept an office in Williamsville until his death, tried cases in state and federal courts and was an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
He was a member of the Erie County and New York State Bar Associations and the Trial Lawyers Association of Erie County.
Mr. Nicosia also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the 100 Club of Buffalo and the Buffalo Curling Club.
He owned race horses for many years and was a member of the Western New York Harness Horsemen's Association and the U.S. Trotting Association.
His wife of 40 years, the former Dolores Del Priore, died in 2008.
Survivors include a daughter, Bethann; a brother, Ralph; a sister, Bertha Pierino; and a companion, Karen Ogiela.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.

To Ralph and the entire Frank Nicosia Family. I was so sorry I was unable to attend Frank's wake because i was so saddened to read about his passing. I always considered him a dear friend and a true brother in the law. It brought back memories of our downtown greetings as we practiced our profession.
