Gerald Bartz Obituary

Bartz, Gerald William

Dec. 16, 1936 - Dec. 14, 2023

Entered into eternal rest on December 14, 2023 in Burlington, MA. Beloved husband of the late Margarete Emilie Bartz (nee Staschik). Father of Susanne Christine (Rocco Daniel) Albertelli, the late Kim Maria Bartz LaRotonda and the late Ursula Margarete Bartz. Former Father-in-law to Craig LaRotonda. Brother of Donald (Karen) Bartz. Brother-in-Law of the late Hermann (late Brigette) Staschik and the late Ursula Staschik. Son of the late Carl and late Cornelia Bartz. Survived by many relatives in the United States and Germany. Jerry attended St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in Buffalo, NY. He earned a running scholarship in cross-country and track and field to Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree. Jerry was in the US Army Reserves for four years in his twenties. Jerry was a Steel Sales Representative for Teledyne Columbia Summerill for over 25 years. He then became an independent Representative for 5 major steel companies in the Northeast until his retirement. Jerry enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the Village Glen Tennis Club in Williamsville for over 30 years. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his long-time good friends. Jerry and Margarete loved to travel and made several trips to Germany to visit relatives and friends. They also visited several countries in Europe and various parts of the US and Canada. Jerry's big passion was music. He was a member of the Queen City Jass Society. He played the ukulele and was part of a music making duo Bartz and Snider with his good friend Dick Snider. A vaudevillian act of ukelele and piano, they performed songs from the 1920's and 1930's, in costume and with plenty of jokes in between. They played at jazz festivals, private parties and numerous bars and saloons. A memorial in celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 11 am at The Terrace at Delaware Park, 199 Lincoln Pkwy, Buffalo, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SPCA Serving Erie County. Arrangements by the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc. This man was a treasure. A little nutty for sure but still a treasure. He surely livened up The New Sensational Seniors. I did a myriad of shows with him and never knew what to expect. Audiences loved his irreverence but he was always respectful. Heaven better be ready. The angels will have to trade in their harps or ukuleles.

To the family of Gerry Bartz,
Gerry was a "one of a kind" individual and I enjoyed his company immensely.I worked for Ryerson Steel ,both in Buffalo and in New England for forty two years and during that time did business with Gerry.
He was always very professional when he needed to be but still with a twinkle in his eye.
We had several long enjoyable lunches over the years ,the most memorable at McCarthys in the First Ward.
(One involved him attempting to paint the ceiling during a St Pats celebration and another with his ukele and Dick Snider on the piano.)
He will be missed!
