Janice McCollum Obituary

Janice Harvey McCollum, a cherished mother, loyal friend, and sports aficionado, passed away peacefully in Maryland on July 25, 2025 at the age of 78. She is now reunited with Bill McCollum her devoted husband of over 50 years. As a Duke University tennis alum, she proudly bled Duke blue. Her love of sports also extended to the Royals and the Chiefs, with a special place in her heart for Salvador Perez and Patrick Mahomes. Janice's vibrant, sociable spirit meant she was the life of every party. She believed deeply in friendship, community, and the joy of dogs. Her cherished wheaten terriers were her constant companions, especially Posie, who remained by her side until the end. When not out with friends, Janice was a dedicated volunteer at The John Wornall House, Children's Mercy Hospital, and The Children's Place. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love, carried on by her biggest fans: her children, Cindy (Mark), Mark, and Scott (Erica); her grandchildren, Julia, Natalie and Parker; her brother Jeffrey; and her niece and nephew, Karen and Jeff. To honor Janice's vibrant life and continue her spirit of generosity, the family suggests donating to the ASPCA (ASPCA.org" target="_new" rel="nofollow">ASPCA.org) or to CureAlzheimer's (curealz.org) in lieu of flowers. Her remains were interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery during a graveside service surrounded by close family & friends. A memorial service will be held at Country Club Christian Church in Kansas City in 2026.
