Dear Mrs. Poplawski and Family,
I was sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Poplawski. I am still teaching at Central and remember when he chaperoned a Sabres game with my French Club many years ago. I think he was an all around nice guy. I still have a Valentine that Kevin gave me when he was in my class. My prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

Dear Chric, Kevin ans Scott I know I have not been around for awhile but I was in complete shock in hearing of Jerry's demise. I know you all are tight and will miss him deeply. Words, cards flowers etc are nice things but I believe the faith you all have is more important than anyof the other things. Again I am so sorry

Dear Chris,
I'm sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. Truly, he was a great guy, and he loved your family very much. He always bragged about his sons and granddaughters. His Disney shirts and ties were a testimony to how much he enjoyed your vacations. Jerry was a wonderful "boss" and friend. His smile was contagious, and he made everyone feel very much at ease. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the Polawski family. Jerry was my godfather and I appreciate the good cheer he brought into my life. From giving me my first Big Wheel, to telling sly jokes ("Watch me pull my thumb off..."), to being present, smiling, and friendly at birthdays & gatherings, Jerry showed me that life is meant to be fully lived. I had not been in touch with him for years, but can now see his smiling face and hear his soothing voice. I am thankful for having him in my life and will miss him.

Dear Poplawski Family,
Mr. Jerry was a good man. He would always bring joy to people. I would always look foward to seeing him. I remember on New Year's Eve 2007 he gave me the biggest hug and it just meant a lot to me. Now he's in a better place. Actually we are in more pain then he is up there. It was good to know him the ten years of my life. I miss him, he was like a grandpa to me. I loved him! He will always be in my heart.
Here is a note to my Uncle Kevin.
Dear Uncle Kevin,
I will always be there for you no matter what happens. He's in a better place. You, Mrs. Chris, and Mr. Jerry will always, always, always be in my heart. It's like a tatoo.
Love always,

Dearest Poplawski Family,
We would like to let you know how very sorry we are for the loss of Jerry,I can't remember a time when I saw him that he didn't have a smile on his face when he greeted you no matter where it was,in a store,on the street it was his way. What a beautiful memory he imprinted on our hearts.Until you and yours are called to join him, remember that he is watching over to keep you safe, and when when you feel an embrace,or a wisp on your ear or cheek it is your beloved comforting you.Believe.As time passes may the skies open to glorious sunshine from the heavens above and erase the pain in your hearts and again bring peace to all.God bless all and keep you safe and in his care always. And for you Jerry, peace and much love till we meet again.....Smiley

I can't believe I am commenting on Jerry's death. I knew him from the beginning of his Corps career. I had sought the same job he was hired to fill. Bill Baum told me when I saw his resume I would agree he was much more qualified and I did and I did.
Jerry Poplawski was an extraordinary human being of great intelligence, ability and to me, most importantly, he had incredible empathy. He had that rare ability to listen to the small voices of the simple people and he listened and was sensitive to their needs. He benefited many of the folk of the floating plant fleet by his ability to think in their terms rather than the policy disciplines of government.
I was always happy to see his upward progression since I knew he brought his tools of understanding each step of the way.
I have only seen Jerry at the Credit Union dinners when I could attend and he always gave my presence and words full attendance.
We all suffer by his absence but let us praise that he dwelt amongst us. A marvelous person and we miss him already.

It's very rare that someone like Jerry comes around and leaves such a lasting positive impression on people's lives. Jerry is one of those people. We will never forget how Jerry made us feel like one of the family and how he treated my children like they were his. The memories we've made at family gatherings and Disney World vacations will never be forgotten. I always have enjoyed talking about our favorite Disney entree or playing golf together. He will be missed and his loss cannot be relplaced. God works all things together for the good, so we will have to wait patiently to see how this fits into his plans for us. Jerry is at peace and free from pain. God be with the Poplawski family and all who knew and loved Jerry.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to all of Jerry's family and friends. It was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a coworker of mine for years, but I had just recently started to get to know him better. I was always so amused by his love of Disney! He had the best Disney attire! He was a wonderful person. I know that his family was his life, and you were all very lucky to have him in your life. I will truly miss him. God Bless all of you - my thoughts and prayers are with you!

There are many red, tear-stained eyes at the Corps of Engineers this morning; there will be for many days to come.
Jerry touched the lives of many people. He was not simply a co-worker, he was a friend, mentor, and yes, a hero.
The Corps of Engineers family mourns with you.
