CUDMORE - John W., M.D.
Of Amherst, NY passed from this world at the age of 84 on February 28, 2023, with our love and gratitude for his life. Beloved husband of Suzanne (nee Schramm); devoted father of Jane (Rick Cousineau) and William G. (Samantha) Cudmore; loving son of the late William E. Cudmore, M.D. and the late Marguerite M. Cudmore, M.D.; dear cousin of William (Sandy) Cudmore of Oakville, Ontario and Evelyn Mary (Jopp) Kalss of Montreal, Canada; brother-in-law of David (late Georgiann) Knight. Jack served 35 years with the N.Y. Army National Guard, retiring as a Major General of the line. Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday March 11, 2023, from 2 PM - 5 PM at THE DIETRICH FUNERAL HOME, 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Jack's memory to Wounded Warrior Project, Donor Care Center, P.O. Box 758518, Topeka, KS 66675. Burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery is planned for a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.thedietrichfuneralhome.com

Dr. Cudmore was my doctor in the late 90's. He was caring, funny and always took the time to explain everything. I think of him often and I am here today because of him. Dr. Cudmore will always have a place in my heart. RIP Dr. C

I´m saddened to have just learned of Dr Cudmore´s passing. At the tender age of 18 I began working at HCP on High St as a medical records clerk. Being so young I was a bit intimidated by many of the Dr´s and even more so when I learned that Dr Cudmore was a Brigadier General in the Army. That didn´t last long..he sensed that I was nervous and asked me why. I told him I wasn´t sure how to address him,´Sir, Dr Cudmore, General Cudmore..did I need to salute him??? He chuckled, extended his hand and said, `how `bout you just call me Jack, Mike´. I would often forget this permission and call him General or Dr C, he always gave he a knowing smirk and I was at ease again. He taught me that formality had its place and time, but humanity and decency was of utmost importance. I enjoyed working with him for several years until I transferred to Empire Dr HCP. He would always make time to chat with me a bit at any HCP function though. He was a good man in every aspect of the word. It was my privilege to have known him and learn by his example. Dr Cudmore..I mean Jack, may you rest well in God´s Peace . Mike Baer

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. My deepest sympathies. I had first met him when I joined the 134th Med Bn in 1964, in his friend MAJ Dewey's Company. I left the Buffalo area after commissioning and was surprised when he attended AT with my unit when I was the Bn S3. I also visited his unit the 244th Med when I was a higher HQ G2, and he adopted me into his staff. I always appreciated his professionalism and friendship, he will be missed.

Dear Sue & Family, So terribly sorry for your loss. We have known you & Jack for many years. Grateful for the memories that we shared at all of the Armory parties. Recent years we would be together at the Saturn Club. Remembering a little over 42 years ago, Jack did Glenn's & mine blood work before we were married. We remember his love for history. He shared your two cruises on the Mississippi River and suggested that we give it a try. He loved those cruises...Jack will be remembered in our hearts and fond memories. May he rest peacefully
