John Kogut Obituary

KOGUT-John Anthony 1942 - 2007; passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at his home in Branchport, NY surrounded by his family. John, the son of Rose and John Kogut, grew up in Lackawanna, NY with his older brother Mike and younger sister Tina. Throughout his life, John enjoyed hunting and spending time in the outdoors. For several summers, he was the rifle range director at Woodcraft Camp in the Adirondacks. John attended the University of Buffalo (SUNY/AB South), graduating in 1965 with a Degree in Pharmacy. He later earned his MBA from Syracuse University. Following college, John became an officer in the US Army, attaining the rank of Captain. John began his business career as a pharmacist working his way up to becoming President of Fay's Drug Division and principal owner at CHSI. He was also a member of the NY State Board of Pharmacy. He put his heart into his work, pioneering the development of retail pharmacy as we know it today. About 6 years ago, John switched gears to spend more time with his family and friends and to pursue his dreams as a deer hunter, golfer, skier, and gentleman farmer (buckwheat to attract the deer). John is survived by his wife Debbie, the love of his life; his brother Mike and wife Marilyn; and his sister Tina and husband Joe Metzger. He was a great father and will be sorely missed by his children: Kimberly and Lindsey Hart, Kathy Kogut, Bob and Melinda Kogut, Dave and Chris Kogut; and grandchildren, Kate and Gretchen Kogut. John will also be missed by his longtime friends Rich, Ralph, Kandy, Father Emil and many others. John Kogut was a man who always looked out for his friends and took care of his family. His zest for life, loyalty, and sense of humor (bad jokes, mostly) will not be forgotten. Friends and family may call at FAGAN'S FUNERAL HOME (31 W. Morris St., Bath, NY) on January 12, 2007, from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm with a Memorial Mass to follow at 2:00 pm at St. Mary's Church (32 E. Morris St., Bath, NY) with Rev. Emil Swiatek, Celebrant. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John Kogut's name to Camp Good Days, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Rd., PO Box 665, Mendon, NY 14506 or at www.campgooddays.org.

I will always remember John for his quick wit! As a man of strength and leadership, I most admired his ability to be gently compassionate. He inspired us to work hard in the old Fay's days and taught us to take a break when it was time to laugh! I will miss him and I am grateful to have been a part of his legacy! My prayers for John and his family.

My uncle John was incredible man and will be very missed by all of us. He left us with many memories.... learning to water ski and drive the boat in 1000 islands to baiting my first fish hook, to my first concert to many amazing Bflo Bills games. His smile and his patience (especially with those crazy cousins of mine, who kept crashing cars, running boats on the shoals and getting in avalanches) is a picture of patience all parents hope to achieve (especially one of three boys!) His fight against cancer showed his greatest character. He fought the whole way and lived life even more fully than he had before. I have learned many lessons from my uncle and will always remember him.

I am truly saddened by the passing of John. I will always carry with me very fond memories. As a Fay's Drug R.Ph.he was both a leader and mentor to all of us. However, the lasting memories are all the great times we shared away from the workplace. His passion for life was always evident, on the boat, at a Bills tailgate, or just walking the fairways hitting his magical 3-iron. May our memory of John bring you comfort during this most difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with Debbie, and the entire Kogut family.

It is still hard to believe that uncle John is gone. Life doesn't seem to make sense at times, but we have to have faith that there is a deeper plan and that God's hand is upon uncle John. I am glad that he is no longer in pain, though so sad that he is not here with us still.
He taught me how to water ski (patience of a saint) and I remember with fondness our many times at the lake house together as a child. His sense of humor and gentle way will stay with me.

My love and prayers are with Uncle John, Aunt Debbie and all my cousins.

Debbie, Mike and Marilyn:
I know the Kogut family through living next door to Mike and Marilyn for the past 9 years. I had the wonderful experience of meeting John on a few occassions and like his brother Mike he was a wonderful, warm and gentle man. I am happy for the brothers that they had some incredible quality time together in the last year and trust and know that these memories will carry Mike, Marilyn and Debbie and the whole family through the very tough healing time ahead.
Please know that Vinnie and I send you much love, light and energy during this tough time and have the faith to know that John will always be with all of you even though you can't see him. What a wonderful family you are and we are better from knowing you.
Much love,
Scott and Vinnie

To
the Kogut Family,
I was deeply saddened by the loss of John, who I knew for many years
working as a pharmacist for Fay's. John was always a professional
person and he took a personal interest in everyone he came in contact
with. He will be surely missed by hundreds of pharmacists he had come
in contact with.

My prayers are with you and your family. I only knew John briefly via telephone consultations, as I was one of his clients from Profit Leader. Our conversations were informative, entertaining, and John was always professional. Though our acquaintence was brief, John helped me immensely, to become a better educated Director of Pharmacy. I have and will miss our conversations!

I will never forget those summer visits at the place John had on the St. Lawrence River. Fishing and boating and having to clean all the perch the boys caught there were alot of laughs. You and your family are in my prayers.

Dear Debbie Kogut & Family

We were deeply saddened to learn of John's passing. John and I (Chet) were classmates, kept in touch through the years, but I feel sad that we lost touch for the last five years or so. Our prayers and thoughts are with you as you go through this loss, and may God guide John to his eternal home.

We so enjoyed John's last visit to Hilton Head. We had a low keyed, relaxing time, that was filled with conversation ,and introspection. We will remember John always as he was during those days. Our prayers are with you, and the children.Hope John is telling mom and daddy some of his jokes right now.
