RIP SIR TOTARO...EVEN THOUGH OUR ACQUAINTANCE WAS SHORT AND OF A BUSINESS ONE, IT WAS ENJOYABLE AND MEANINGFUL. I WOULD CALL YOU PRETENDING TO BE CHECKING UP ON THE PROGRESS OF MY WINDOW YOU WERE REPAIRING, YOU WOULD ALWAYS SAY "IT'S GONNA BE BEAUTIFUL MRS HICKS, YOU GONNA LOVE IT" I WAS SO EXCITED, AND COULD ACTUALLY SEE THAT WINDOW WHERE IT ONCE STOOD. THEN THE CHIT CHAT CAME, I WOULD LISTEN AS YOU TALK ABOUT THE HISTORY OF BUFFALO, THE HOMES, ESP THE ONES OF MY COMMUNITY. I WOULD REMINISCE ABOUT MY FATHER AND I RELATIONSHIP. THANKS FOR THAT TIME.

Daddy~o, I'm so thankful for the signs you keep giving me. Of course you continue to make me smile (you always had a way!) with each coin you leave me because you don't leave just pennies like most would, it's a quarter or a nickle too sometimes. I always check the year & smile again. You have done a few more special things and it's a reminder that your forever with me. It sadly hasn't taken away my grief & sadness but it does ease it some. I think of you & miss you every minute of everyday. I'm a better person for having had you as my daddy. I just wish I could hold your hand a little longer, sit on your lap again, have another father&daughter chat and watch you with my kids. Johnnie was telling knock knock jokes with his Chuck last night & he said it was his closest moment to God~perhaps he was feeling so close to you! In more recent years Jace and I hooked up as artists and got into some drum talk which I truly enjoyed! As I believe life goes on I hope our paths will cross once again and we can lay down some fat grooves together on a stage somewhere! I will always remember his realness and passion! My Father - in - law, Papa Jace, was a man of few words. But when he spoke his words were as serious and thought provoking as they were silly and witty. And often times hard to tell which. My finest memory of Jace was also my scariest when I asked for his blessing to marry Julie. He stopped immediately and looked at me and said no. Again I don't know if he's serious or not. His point was I do not need to ask permission from anyone for anything when it comes to my "new" family which is what he said I created if I were to marry his daughter. His opinion or anyone else's no longer mattered. Words I lived by now for 16 years now. I thank him for that and the love he gave to me, Julie and John n Mary. Miss you Papa Jace!
