My sincere sympathies to Joe´s family. I was his student at Buffalo State in the late `60s. Besides learning everything I know about stuttering therapy, he told my Mother, with whom he was friends via their shared interest in antiques, to encourage me to apply for a job at the Language Development Program....a one-of-it´s-kind opportunity to work with 2-3 year olds with significant speech & language delays. I had quit my traditional speech therapist job with the schools in California, disillusioned with all of it, and moved back to Buffalo to decide what to do next. Joe told my Mom that I needed to contact LDP. It is because of Joe and his encouragement that I even knew about the job, interviewed, got the it, and found a whole new venue where I could express my knowledge and creativity ...and where I learned and was appreciated. What I´m saying is Joe is THE person who led me to the rest of my wonderful career.
After 5 years I took that knowledge and growing expertise back to San Diego to start a program like LDP´s in the school system. That was 1989.
Recently I retired and moved back to Buffalo from San Diego..and I thought about Joe. I´m so sorry I didn´t call him to say hello, fill him in on my successes because of that job, and thank him. Thank you, Joe . May God bless you and your memory and give comfort to your family and his beloved Rose. I´ll remember you always Rest in peace. I hope you´re antiquing with my Mother Rose and Aunt Molly.
