Marjorie Devine Obituary

Aug. 2, 1922 – Jan. 25, 2015

Marjorie E. Devine, of Kenmore, a retired teacher, died Sunday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She was 92.

Born in Buffalo, the former Marjorie Crosby attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and was a 1940 graduate of Bennett High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Brockport State Teachers College in 1944 and a master's degree in education from Canisius College.

She taught in Gratwick Elementary School in North Tonawanda from 1943 until she retired in 1963.

Active as a volunteer, during World War II, she took part in the Gray Lady service of the American Red Cross and assisted with the USO. She received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of volunteer service from the Veterans Administration.

In recent years, she was a volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, a dining room for the needy at Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church.

She was a charter member of the Ernest C. Hartwell Society at SUNY Brockport and a member of the Taoist Tai Chi Society.

She enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling, swimming and visiting Letchworth State Park.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Thomas R.; three sons, Gregory T., Matthew P. and Johnathan C.; and a granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the St. John Neumann Shrine at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1085 Englewood Ave., Town of Tonawanda.

Uncle Tom and boys, We Are sorry to hear of the loss of great Aunt Marge. She was a beautiful lady. although we live many miles apart. she Always did her best to keep in touch. .Uncle Tom and Marge made it possible for all my kids to attend Catholic school up until it closed. We will always cherish our time together when we met them in St. Louis with father Michael. She will be missed by many.
