Age 72. Beloved husband of Luba Kukharuk-Procyk; devoted father of Nestor O. Procyk, Jr.; cherished brother of Diana (Gregory) Fiedler and the late Zora (Daniel) DeGrandpre; also survived by his three nephews David Potocki, Matthew and Stephen Dougherty. The family will be present on Tuesday, from 4 to 7 pm, at the (Tonawanda Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2600 Sheridan Drive (corner of Parker Blvd.), where a Panachyda service will be held at 6 pm. Prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 9:15 am, where a Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 am, from St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 3275 Elmwood Ave., Tonawanda, N.Y. My friendship with Nestor began in 7th grade at Nardin Academy and continued through Canisius HS. I remember his cousin(?) Donald Martinovich was also a classmate at Nardin. I was also an occasional guest in the Procyk home on West Ferry and was acquainted with his parents and sisters. Despite his physical challenges Nestor was a whole and compassionate person as well as a genius like his father. He was a "regular-guy" at heart as evidenced by the chunk of pencil-lead still embedded in my finger -- a result of one of our clandestine in-class wars. As a formidable opponent, he taught me much about the game of chess. Regrettably, we lost contact until recently -- when Putin's war started. We only shared a few texts, but it was definitely the "old" Nestor -- solid, quick-witted and passionate. He was very proud of his heritage and justifiably so. He is missed.

Nestor and I were friends at Canisius High School, class of 1970. We lost touch over the years, but I remember him beating me at chess and showing me his plans to build a liquid-fueled rocket. I wish that I had helped him find a rocket club. I was terrified that he was going to blow himself to smithereens if he ever tried to build any of his designs. Prayers for him and for the whole family.
