Norman KEIM Obituary

KEIM - Rev. Norman and Gloria In life, they were inseparable, but death would not keep them apart for long. Gloria Haniford Keim, age 86, passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday, March 24, 2016, in Syracuse, NY. She was born on May 10, 1929 in Buffalo, NY to parents Edward and Doris Haniford. She was married to Norman O. Keim on April 19, 1952. Gloria grew up in Buffalo and resided in Syracuse for the past 54 years. She was a dedicated homemaker and worked as a Hospice Administrative Assistant for 12 years. An active volunteer, Gloria was very involved in her community in the Syracuse University area. She is survived by her sister, Beverly Kusmierczyk; her four children: Paul (Debbie) Keim, Steven (Connie) Keim, Phillip (Jan) Keim and Gretchen (Scott) Long; her four grandchildren: Kristen, Kelsh, Angelsea and Kathryn; two great-grandchildren: Trinity and Trever, and was known as "Grandma Glo" to many. Rev. Norman Oscar Keim, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Syracuse, just 11 days after his wife of 64 years, Gloria. Born in Buffalo on May 25,1929 to parents Conrad and Marie Keim, Norm was a 1952 graduate of Cornell University and a 1956 graduate of Andover Newton Theological School in Boston, MA. He worked at Judson Church in Greenwich Village, New York City in the 1950s and became chaplain at Syracuse University in 1961. He created Film Forum, a weekly presentation of small production and foreign films, in the University's Gifford Auditorium and the Regent Theatre from 1967-1980. He was founder and director of the Syracuse University Film Studies Center and Adjunct Professor of Film Studies from 1973-1985. He most recently published his first book at 80, "Our Movie Houses," a history of Film and Movie Houses in Central NY. He is survived by his four children, listed above; his brother Milton (Eleanor) Keim; nieces Susan and Chistel; nephew Eric and cousin Guenter Schneider. A Celebration of Life Service for Norman and Gloria will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 11 AM at the United Church of Fayetteville, 310 East Genesee St., Fayetteville, NY. Donations can be made on Gloria's behalf to Winds of Agape Inc., 1414 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, NY 13208. Donations for Norman can be made to te Petit Branch Library, OCPL Trustee Gift Fund, 105 Victoria Place, Syracuse, NY 13210.

I just came across Norman's book because of something I was working on and looked up more information on him. So sorry to hear he and his wife passed so closely together.
