Ronald COLGROVE Obituary

COLGROVE - Ronald Bertram
Born July 17, 1930, died December 9, 2020, in Mount Dora, FL; son of the late Bertram Charles and Doris Anna (nee Hoffman) Colgrove; brother to the late Kenneth Colgrove of Louisiana; husband of Audrey (nee Farrance) and the late Ruth Marion (nee Talbot) (died 1986); father of Colleen (Mark) Grotke, Allison (Kenneth) Coddington, Jennifer (William) Martin, James (Cherice) Colgrove, Michelle Farrance, Patrick (Judy) Farrance and Meredith (Thomas) Saluzzo; also survived by 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ron, a native of Buffalo, NY and a graduate of The Albright Knox Art School, was a nationally acclaimed artist who exhibited at many one-man shows throughout the United States and won national and regional awards for his graphic designs, pen-and-ink drawings, and oil and acrylic paintings for over 60 years. After a 40-year career as Chief Artist at Cornel Aeronautical Labs (Calspan) a research and Development Company in Cheektowaga, NY, Ron retired in central Florida and began devoting all of his time to his passion for art. Ron compiled and published Buffalo's Architectural Heritage, a book containing pen-and-ink drawings of historic Buffalo, NY, buildings, and was featured in periodicals about his pen and ink technique. Ron with his first wife, Ruth, invented several patented children's toys and games. Ron served in the NY State National Guard Signal Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. He enjoyed chess, table tennis, billiards, basketball and played tennis well into his mid-80's. He had an easy-going and creative personality and fostered a love of the outdoors in his children.
