I had Mr. Certo for a teacher in 9th grade way back in 1967 at Ben Franklin. I always enjoyed his classes, but unfortunately as a 14 year old, I was more interested in boys. Anyway, that semester my grades slipped. I went to Mr. Certo's office after school at the end of the quarter to find out my grade for his class. He looked at me and said I had earned a F. I was shocked to find that out and I burst out in tears. I said I knew it was my fault for slacking off in school, (I wasn't the top student, but never received a grade below a C). I told him my parents would be so disappointed in me. He looked at me and said "I suggest you focus on your school work this semester". I promised I would. A few days later my report card arrived in the mail. Imagine my surprise when my grade was changed to a D. I got a stern talking to from my parents. The next quarter I focused on my studies and received a B. I always remember that kindness from him. He was a great teacher and I will never forget him.

The saddens me greatly, Russ was hands down, the best teacher that I ever had in all the years that I went to school, and Herb Schieb, was a very close second. I ran into Mr Certo during my years in the highway department, and I was able to tell him what a profound effect he made in my life as a teacher. I hope you knew the Lord Jesus and that he is truly resting in peace. Thank you for the memories Mr Certo, you were a great influence in my life...
