Age 94, of North Tonawanda, NY. Born in Buffalo, NY, Ruth was the daughter of the late Harry and Stephanie Pontlitz (née Szczesny). A lifelong career woman, teacher, and dedicated public servant, Ruth earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Buffalo State College. Ruth was a sales manager for Sarah Coventry Jewelry for almost 20 years. Ruth went on to teach English at public and private schools in Buffalo and North Tonawanda. Ruth later transitioned to government service, retiring as a Program Analyst from the Department of Veterans Affairs in Buffalo in May 1995. Ruth was a proud graduate of South Park High School and a lifetime member of the Buffalo State College Alumni Association. She was also an honorary lifetime member of the PTA and was active in the United Methodist and Unitarian Universalist traditions, attending the First United Methodist Church in North Tonawanda. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Gerard Lorenz, who passed away in 2013. Ruth was the cherished mother of Geoffrey (Larry Dietrich) Lorenz of Lauderhill, FL and the late Gregory Lorenz (Deborah Smith)Lorenz of North Tonawanda, NY. She was a loving grandmother to Benjamin (Amber) Lorenz of Kenmore, NY, and a proud great-grandmother to Brielle and Nate Lorenz. Ruth was the dear sister of the late Raymond Pontlitz (Carol) and Rodney Pontlitz (Mary) of North Tonawanda. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11 AM, at the First United Methodist Church, 65 Main Street. Please share condolences www.jerfh.com
