Susan Bruce Obituary
May 22nd, 1954 - April 20th, 2024
Of Snyder, NY. She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Ronald, her daughter Lauren (Joanne Salas), her son Matthew (Michael Mohan), and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born in Amsterdam, NY, she is predeceased by Michael and Regina (Zielonkiewicz) Malkiewicz, and sister Michelle (Youngs). A graduate of D'Youville College, she was a pillar of the WNY nursing community for over forty years. Dr. Bruce practiced as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at the Buffalo Medical Group for over two decades before transitioning to the University of Buffalo as a Clinical Professor for the School of Nursingwhile completing her PhD in Epidemiology in 2008. Dr. Bruce was the 2003 recipient of the Nurse Practitioner Associations Nancy Macintyre NP of the Year award and in 2010 received the AANP State Award for Excellence. Dr. Bruce had a passion for both nursing and teaching, her lectures were oftentimes close to a stand-up comedy act; an international student once remarked, "there is nothing like you in Iran." Retiring in 2018, she enjoyed beach vacations and camping in the Adirondacks with her family, gardening, reading mysteries, music, Law and Order and the Marvel Universe. She cherished her family, basset hound Norman, friends, students, and patients. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 3-7 PM at Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Ave, Amherst, NY 14226, with a short service to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Response to Love Center or a charity of your choice in her honor. Sue was our neighbor on Kings Highway. She and her entire family were wonderful friends and neighbors. I feel lucky to have known her.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue´s passing. I got to know her while I worked at UB and enjoyed her friendship and knowledge. The students will miss her guidance and mentorship. Prayers to the entire family.

Dear Bruce Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I will never forget Sue´s wit in all situations, especially lectures, and her delight when she spoke of her family. Sue has been a guidepost to me in my career and I am honored to have learned from her. Sue always made time for me and we shared numerous talks. I will carry those memories of Sue with me always. I would not be where I am today without her. I will miss her greatly!
