Violet Smothermon

Smothermon, Violet Affectionately known as Saint Vi by friends at her church of over 40 years, Violet H Smothermon (Luthringer), 94, peacefully entered into God's presence on April 27, 2025. Violet worked in the Erie County district attorney's office, transcribing and typing the court reporters' shorthand. Once Vi retired she spent most of her time volunteering in various ministries such as a drug rehab center, crisis pregnancy center and her church, Lovejoy.

Vi's two true loves were her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her family. Vi was beautiful and brave, wise and witty, spiritual yet spunky. Vi lived life out loud and loved lavishly. She was unabashedly affectionate and always affirming. Vi's vitality, enthusiasm and curiosity created a youthful demeanor that made her seem ageless. At church she was considered a VIP and treated like both a rockstar and royalty. Vi was known for the countless eloquent and heartfelt letters and cards she sent to friends and family that always lifted them up and were never forgotten. She had an impact on everybody she met because of the sincere interest she demonstrated. Although she only had four children countless people also considered her their mom. Vi was the cherished mom of daughters, Jocelyn Kurtz (Rick) and Bonny Hoeflein (Karl); son David Smothermon (Kim Schillinger. Her 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren adored her. Vi was predeceased by her husband, James Smothermon Sr and son, James Smotherman Jr. There will be a celebration of life service on Wednesday, August 20, 6 PM, at Love Joy Church, 5423 Genesee St., Lancaster, 14086. Donations in Vi's name can be sent to her church, Love Joy Church
